SpaceX successfully delivered a new crew to the International Space Station (ISS) on Saturday, completing the journey in a swift 15 hours. The four astronauts – from the US, Russia, and Japan – arrived in their SpaceX capsule after launching from NASA's Kennedy Space Center. The historic NISAR mission, a landmark collaboration between NASA and ISRO, has now entered its crucial 90-day commissioning phase. During this period, scientists will conduct rigorous checks, calibrations, and orbital adjustments to prepare the satellite for full-scale Earth observation. This critical phase follows the successful launch of the radar imaging satellite on July 30th aboard a GSLV-F16 rocket from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.
ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan stated that the successful launch of the NISAR satellite was one of the most precise launches globally. He noted NASA's excitement that India was able to successfully carry out the mission using the indigenously developed GSLV Mark vehicle. Narayanan made these remarks to reporters on Thursday night at the international airport, a day after ISRO successfully placed the NISAR (NASA–ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar) mission into orbit onboard a GSLV-16 rocket from the spaceport.
India and the United States (US) marked a major milestone in space cooperation with the successful launch of the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite on July 30. Developed jointly by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) over more than 12 years, NISAR is the world’s first Earth observation mission to carry dual-frequency radar (L-band by NASA, S-band by ISRO) on a single platform, making it the most powerful radar system ever sent into Earth's orbit. The satellite was precisely injected into orbit by India’s indigenous GSLV-F16 launch vehicle, earning recognition as one of the most accurate satellite launches to date.
After the successful launch of the NISAR satellite, ISRO chairman V. Narayanan announced on Wednesday that the next collaborative mission with NASA—the launch of the Blue Bird Block2 communication satellite—will be among nine major launches planned from this spaceport by the end of the current fiscal year. Speaking at the Mission Control Centre, he stated that these missions are being executed under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "Before the end of this financial year, nine major launches are planned. The next major launch is the LVM3-M5 Mission, where the LVM3 rocket will deploy a communication satellite CMS-02," he said.
Aimed at boosting ties between India and the United States on space exploration, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Wednesday launched an earth observation satellite jointly developed by ISRO and NASA. The launch took place at 5:40 PM IST. The NISAR satellite, a combination of human skills and a decade-long exchange of software and hardware between the two space agencies, aims to study Earth as a whole from a Sun-synchronous Orbit.
